Marco Claveria
Chilean folk music
Marco Claveria, born in Santiago, Chile, began guitar lessons at ten, learning Chilean folk music and later expanding to styles like Cuecas, Tonadas, and the Argentinian Samba. After immigrating to Canada in 1982, he became active in Edmonton's music scene. His solo releases "Essencias" and "Origins" feature collaborations with renowned artists such as Alex Cuba and members of Irakere. Marco has toured extensively across Canada, South America, and Europe, performing at events like the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Edmonton Folk Music Festival. As a founding member of Bomba!, he opened for acts like Al Green and Angelique Kidjo. Inspired by his experiences at AFROCUBANISMO! in Banff, he studied music in Cuba with masters like Carlitos Gonzales. His latest release, “Algo en Comun,” fuses Latin and Celtic elements, collaborating with The McDades to create a fresh musical approach.
